Viking is unusually clear about what it does not offer. There are no casinos, no children and no formal nights. In their place are a well-stocked library, lectures by resident historians, regional dishes on the menu and an included excursion in almost every port.
The look is consistent across the fleet: blond wood, wool throws, clean lines and a great deal of natural light. On the rivers, the long, low vessels known as Viking Longships are a familiar sight from Amsterdam to Budapest. The ocean ships are near-identical sisters of modest size, each with a Nordic spa where a hot pool is followed by a cold plunge. The expedition ships extend the same approach to Antarctica and the Great Lakes, with scientists working on board.
