Virtuoso
The name is a statement of intent. UnCruise ships are small, sturdy and informal, with no casino, no dress code and no production shows. They serve chiefly as a comfortable base for getting outdoors, and the daily programme is posted each morning according to tide, weather and what the wildlife is doing.
Guests choose from guided activities at several levels of effort: a skiff ride along the shoreline, a paddle in a sea kayak, or a hike through trackless forest that the guides cheerfully call bushwhacking. Captains have the freedom to linger when whales or bears appear. Evenings are spent in the lounge with a local beer and a talk from one of the expedition guides.
