Seabourn set out in the late 1980s to offer something closer to a private yacht than a cruise ship, and the idea still holds. The ships are small, every guest has a suite with an ocean view, and the crew is numerous and attentive. Champagne and caviar are available on request at any hour.
Days at sea revolve around an open-air lounge and a marina that folds out from the stern, from which guests swim, kayak and sail when the ship is at anchor. In warm waters, the line is known for serving caviar from a surfboard bar in the shallows. The two expedition ships apply the same standards to remote regions, adding an expedition team, Zodiacs, kayaks and submarines for dives beneath the surface.
