Scenic started as an Australian coach touring business and carried its inclusive philosophy onto the water. On the rivers, its long, low vessels have butler service in every category of cabin, balconies that convert to enclosed sun lounges, and electric-assisted bicycles for exploring the towpaths. Meals, drinks, excursions and gratuities are settled in advance.
The two Scenic Eclipse ships are a different proposition: sleek, yacht-like vessels with all-veranda suites, a choice of restaurants ranging from French to Asian, and a sizeable spa. They carry helicopters and a submersible for exploring above and below the waterline, and a team of expedition leaders for voyages to Antarctica, the Arctic and the Kimberley. Between polar seasons they sail the Mediterranean and the Americas in a more leisurely vein.
