Quark Expeditions

Quark has worked in the polar regions for more than three decades and does nothing else. That focus shows in the expedition teams, made up of glaciologists, ornithologists, historians and guides with many seasons in the ice behind them, and in ships chosen for their strength in ice.

A typical day involves two outings by Zodiac: a landing among penguins or a slow cruise along a glacier front, followed by a briefing and an informal lecture. Depending on the voyage, there may be kayaking, a night camped on the Antarctic ice or a flight by ship-based helicopter. Cabins and lounges are comfortable and unfussy. The emphasis is on time off the ship, and the company on board tends to be well travelled and keen to be outdoors.
