Food is the organising principle at Oceania. The galleys are generously staffed, bread and pastry are baked on board, and the speciality restaurants carry no supplement, so an Italian dinner one night and a steakhouse the next are simply part of the voyage. The larger ships add a teaching kitchen where guests cook at their own stations.
The fleet is made up of mid-sized and smaller ships, big enough for a choice of dining rooms yet able to berth in harbours that larger vessels pass by. Itineraries favour long days and frequent overnight stays in port. Dress is country-club casual throughout, with no formal nights, and the atmosphere is calm and grown-up: a library, afternoon tea with a string quartet, a teak deck to walk before dinner.
