Explora Journeys is the luxury venture of the MSC Group, the shipping and cruise company owned by the Aponte family, and it was conceived to feel more like a European seaside hotel than a cruise ship. The vessels are new and purpose-built. Every guest has a suite facing the ocean with its own terrace, and the decks are given over to pools, daybeds and quiet corners rather than attractions.
There are several restaurants on each ship, none with fixed seating, along with a large spa and unhurried lounges. Itineraries favour longer stays and a blend of well-known ports with smaller, less-visited harbours in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Caribbean and beyond. The style throughout is polished and cosmopolitan, with an international mix of guests and a notably relaxed dress code.
