Celebrity occupies the ground between the mass-market lines and the luxury ones. Its ships are large, but the design is cleaner and more grown-up than most at this size, with an emphasis on contemporary interiors, good restaurants and a well-stocked wine list. The line was founded by the Greek Chandris family, and the X on each funnel is the Greek letter chi, a nod to that origin. It is now part of the Royal Caribbean Group.
The newest ships have brought outward-facing decks, a suite enclave with its own restaurant and lounge, and cabins whose windows open to the sea air. Itineraries cover the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and Alaska. In the Galapagos, Celebrity runs a quite different operation: small expedition vessels with naturalist guides, sailing the islands all year.
